Even those who already invest into Linux do not give a flying fuck about open source and free software unless it benefits them directly. You won't find free and open in dictionary of big corporations. They're kinda important (to the gaming industry) right now but I think, unless they completely change their approach, their time is coming to an end. I realise they're still massive currently but they're so resistant to change (they've done a pisspoor job of embracing digital distribution) and extremely reliant on sequels to established franchises. Honestly I feel that EA are a dinosaur who won't be with us all that much longer and, as such, we can do without them. And, had they not fucked them up, SimCity and Sims. So that's way way down the road.īut I could see Mass Effect and Dragon Age doing pretty well on Linux. I'm generalising like crazy of course but I can't see the brogamer crowd (CoD, FIFA etc.) moving to Linux until it's packaged up into a console-like form and it's what all their mates have and they don't even know it's Linux. Plus darksiders and bioshock infinite is coming. I mean we have civ 5, Dota 2, borderlands, witcher 2, metro, dead island and a ton of indie games. I doubt it will ever happen, but then i never expected steam for Linux much less the modest library it has.

I mean I'm grateful they even thought about us, but accepting crappy ports means that crap it's acceptable. Games usually come with wrappers like eon or valves translation layer (i think it was called d2gl or something).

Few ports are ever truly native and optimised to the same level as windows gamers (see witcher 2). However we might be forever be treated as second class citizens even if they do do it. I assume porting isn't cheap, and they at the very least must break even for them to even consider bothering with it. But like for humble bundles, we have to show them that there is market for Linux gaming.

A lot of people are resistant to change, and as long as microsoft has the majority of software supported for it there is little reason for people to convert. Even then it wouldn't be enough to bring the year of the Linux desktop. But if ea is onboard then we may seeing uplay and other companies follow. I'm also too poor to buy a windows key (i use technical preview). Many (including myself) are stuck with windows for certain games. But to have one of the planets biggest games publisher to make software for linux would mean greater adoption. It would mean a lot for linux gamers obviously.
